<p>The Boeing 737 is a short to medium range, single aisle, narrow body jet airliner. Originally developed as a shorter, lower cost twin engine airliner derived from Boeing&#8217;s 707 and 727, the 737 has nine variants, from the early -100 to the most recent and largest, the -900. Series -600 through -900 are still being produced.</p>
<p>First envisioned in 1964, the 737 entered service in 1968. Forty years later it has become the most ordered and produced commercial passenger jet in the world. It is Boeing&#8217;s last surviving narrow-body airliner currently in production, sometimes serving markets previously filled by 707, 727, 757, DC-9 and MD-80/90 airliners. The 737 has been continuously manufactured by Boeing since 1967 with over 8,000 ordered and 5,857 delivered as of 2008. There are over 1,250 737s airborne at any given time, with one departing or landing somewhere every five seconds on average.</p>

<p>The Ilyushin Il-76 (NATO reporting name: Candid) is a 4-engined strategic airlifter designed in the Soviet Union and in widespread use in Europe, Asia and Africa. Originally built for the military, the plane has subsequently seen extensive service as a commercial freighter, especially for the delivery of outsized or very heavy cargo. A water-carrying version of the plane has proven effective in fire-fighting operations in many countries. The Il-76 reportedly carries some 90% of ramp-delivered European airfreight and 90% of disaster relief aid worldwide. It is the most widely used dedicated jet freighter in the 40+ t. category.</p>

<p>The Ilyushin Il-86 is a medium-range wide-body jet airliner. Designed and tested by the Ilyushin design bureau in the 1970s, it was certificated by the Soviet aircraft industry during the 1970s and 1980s, manufactured jointly in the USSR and Poland, and marketed by the USSR. It was the first Soviet wide-body airliner and the world&#8217;s second four-engined wide-body.</p>
<p>Only 106 Il-86s were built and only three of those were exported. The type was used overwhelmingly by Aeroflot and, after the collapse of the USSR, by successor post-Soviet airlines. Unusually for a Soviet airliner, the Il-86 saw only limited military service, though an airborne command post version did enter service.</p>

<p>Two Soviet aircraft have shared the designation Ilyushin Il-18. The first Il-18 was a propeller-driven airliner of 1946. After a year of test flights, however, the programme was abandoned.</p>
<p>The second Il-18 (NATO reporting name: Coot) is a large turboprop airliner somewhat resembling the Lockheed L-188 Electra that became one of the best known of Soviet aircraft (over 850 built), and one of the most popular and long lasting, having first flown in 1957. The IL-18 was one of the world&#8217;s principal airliners for several decades, and was widely exported. Because of the plane&#8217;s durability, many achieved over 45,000 flight hours.</p>

<p>The three-engined Yakovlev Yak-42 (NATO reporting name: Clobber) was designed as a replacement for the twin engined Tupolev Tu-134 jet as a mid-range passenger jet. The Yak-42 was also the first airliner to be produced in the Soviet Union to be powered by modern high-bypass turbofan engines.</p>

<p>The Tupolev Tu-104 (NATO reporting name: Camel) was a twin-engined medium-range turbojet-powered Soviet airliner. After the British de Havilland Comet, Canadian Avro Jetliner, and the French Sud Caravelle, the Tu-104 was the fourth jet airliner to fly, and the second to enter regular service. It was also the sole jetliner in service in the world from 1954 to 1958. </p>

<p>The Tupolev Tu-134 (NATO codename: Crusty) is a Soviet twin-engined airliner, similar to the American Douglas DC-9. One of the most widely used aircraft in the former Warsaw Pact countries, the number in active service is decreasing because of noise restrictions. The model has seen long-term service with some 42 countries throughout Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, with some European airlines making very intense use of the 134 (as many as 12 takeoffs &#038; landings per plane daily). In addition to regular passenger service, it has also been used in various airforce, army and navy support roles; for pilot and navigator training; and for aviation research and test projects. In recent years, a number of planes have been converted for use as VIP transportation. A total of 796 Tu-134s were built.</p>

<p>The Tupolev Tu-154 (Russian: Туполев Ту-154) (NATO reporting name &#8220;Careless&#8221;) is a Soviet medium-range trijet airliner similar to the Boeing 727. It was the mainstay of Soviet airlines for several decades and carried about half, or approximately 137 million, of the passengers flown by Aeroflot and its subsidiaries during that time. The aircraft has been exported to and operated by at least 17 foreign airlines. It remains the standard airliner for domestic routes in Russia and other states of the former Soviet Union, and to a lesser extent in eastern Europe. The Tu-154 is designed to handle unpaved and gravel airfields, and often operates in extreme Arctic conditions.</p>

It was the first Soviet production aircraft capable of supersonic speeds in level flight. A comparable U.S. &#8220;Century Series&#8221; fighter was the F-100 Super Sabre, although it would oppose the more modern F-4 Phantom II and F-105 Thunderchief over Vietnam.</p>

<p>The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (Russian: Микоян и Гуревич МиГ-21) (NATO reporting name &#8220;Fishbed&#8221;) is a supersonic jet fighter aircraft, designed and built by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. It was popularly nicknamed &#8220;balalaika&#8221;, from the aircraft&#8217;s planform-view resemblance to the famous Russian stringed musical instrument or ołówek (English: pencil) by Polish pilots due to the shape of its fuselage. Early versions are considered second-generation jet fighters, while later versions are considered to be third-generation jet fighters. Some 50 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations a half-century after its maiden flight. The fighter has the distinction of holding a number of aviation records, including 1) most produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation history, 2) most produced combat aircraft since the Korean War, and 3) longest production run of a combat aircraft. It has been estimated that more than 10,000 MiG-21s were built.</p>

<p>The Mikoyan MiG-29 (Russian: Микоян МиГ-29) is a 4th generation jet fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union for an air superiority role. Developed in the 1970s by the Mikoyan design bureau, it entered service with the Soviet Air Force in 1983, and remains in use by the Russian Air Force as well as in many other nations. NATO’s reporting name for the MiG-29 is &#8220;Fulcrum&#8221;, which was unofficially used by Soviet pilots in service. It was developed to counter new American fighters such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the F/A-18 Hornet.</p>

It was intended as a direct competitor for the large American fourth generation fighters, with long 3,530 km range, heavy armament, sophisticated avionics and high agility. The Su-27 most often flies air superiority missions, but is able to perform almost all combat operations. Complementing the smaller MiG-29, its closest American counterpart is the F-15 Eagle.</p>
<p>There are several related developments of the Su-27 design. The Su-30 is a two-seat, dual-role fighter for all-weather, air-to-air and air-to-surface deep interdiction missions; comparable to F-15E Strike Eagle. Su-33 ‘Flanker-D’ is a navy fleet defense interceptor for use on aircraft carriers; comparable to F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Further versions include the side-by-side 2-seat Su-34 ‘Fullback’ strike variant and the Su-35 ‘Flanker-E’ improved air defense fighter.</p>

<p>The Mil Mi-8 (Russian Ми-8, NATO reporting name &#8220;Hip&#8221;) is a medium twin-turbine transport helicopter that can also act as a gunship. The first prototype, the W-8, flew in 9 July 1961. It was powered by a single AI-24V engine. A second prototype, with two AI-24V engines, made its first flight on 17 September 1962. After a few changes it was introduced into the Soviet Air Force by 1967 as the Mi-8, and remains in production as of 2009.</p>
<p>The Mi-8 is one of the world&#8217;s most-produced helicopters, and is used by over 50 countries. There are numerous variants, including the Mi-8T which is armed with rockets and anti-tank guided missiles, in addition to carrying twenty-four soldiers. The Mil Mi-17 export version is employed by around 20 countries; its equivalent in Russian service in the Mi-8M series. The naval Mil Mi-14 and attack Mil Mi-24 are also derived from the Mi-8.</p>

<p>The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus, an EADS subsidiary. The largest passenger airliner in the world, the A380 made its maiden flight on 27 April 2005 from Toulouse, France, and made its first commercial flight on 25 October 2007 from Singapore to Sydney with Singapore Airlines. The aircraft was known as the Airbus A3XX during much of its development phase, but the nickname Superjumbo has since become associated with it.</p>
<p>The A380&#8217;s upper deck extends along almost the entire length of the fuselage, and its width is equivalent to that of a widebody aircraft. This allows for a cabin with 50% more floor space than the next-largest airliner, the Boeing 747-400 and provides seating for 525 people in standard three-class configuration or up to 853 people in all economy class configurations. The A380 is offered in passenger and freighter versions. The A380-800, the passenger model, is the largest passenger airliner in the world, but has a shorter fuselage than the Airbus A340-600, which is Airbus&#8217;s next-biggest passenger aeroplane. The A380-800F, the freighter model, is offered as one of the largest freight aircraft, with a listed payload capacity exceeded only by the Antonov An-225. The A380-800 has a design range of 15,200 km (8,200 nmi), sufficient to fly from Boston to Hong Kong for example, and a cruising speed of Mach 0.85 (about 900 km/h or 560 mph at cruising altitude). It is the first commercial jet capable of using GTL-based fuel.</p>

<p>The Ilyushin Il-114 is a Russian airliner that first flew in 1990. It suffered from a crash during testing in 1993, due to engine failure. Another test crash with the cargo version happened in 1999. Initially, orders for the aircraft have been slow, but during the 2007 MAKS Airshow Ilyushin announced the signing of a contract with Venezuela for a large purchase of 98 planes. However, according to Agence France-Presse, the state company Rosoboronexport, which has the monopoly for the export of arms of that country, denied participating in such an agreement[citation needed]. Current operators are Vyborg Airlines in Russia and Uzbekistan Airways in Uzbekistan. Vyborg Airlines (www.aviavyborg.ru) took delivery of an Ilyushin 114 at MAKS 2005.</p>
<p>The Il-114 is a twin-engine turboprop for local routes in the Antonov An-24 class. It is similar to the Saab 2000 in size and appearance. Altogether, 15 planes have been built.</p>

<p>Ил-62 — пассажирский самолёт для авиалиний большой протяжённости, разработанный в ОКБ им. Ильюшина в 1960. Первый полет совершил в 1963. В эксплуатации с 1967. Производился серийно в 1966—1995. Всего было выпущено 276 самолётов.</p>
<p>Реактивный пассажирский самолёт второго поколения, Ил-62 стал первым советским реактивным самолётом, способным совершать беспосадочные межконтинентальные перелёты. На самолёте Ил-62 было установлено несколько мировых рекордов по скорости и дальности полёта. В течение нескольких десятилетий Ил-62 служил «бортом № 1» для перевозки руководства СССР. Треть всех выпущенных машин поставлялась на экспорт в социалистические страны, в первую очередь на Кубу.</p>

<p>The Antonov An-2 (Russian nickname: кукуру́зник kukuruznik - a kolkhoz maize worker (inherited from Polikarpov Po-2)) also nicknamed Annushka; is an extremely durable, light, single-engine biplane which first flew in 31 August 1947 and was the first plane designed by Antonov. It is used as a light transport, capable of carrying 12 passengers, and for parachute drops and agricultural work. Its extraordinary slow-flight and STOL capabilities make it supremely suited for short, unimproved fields, and some specialized variants have also been built for cold weather and other extreme environments. The Guinness Book of World Records states that the 45-year production run for the An-2 was the longest ever, for any aircraft, only recently beaten by the Lockheed C-130 Hercules. USAF/DoD reporting name &#8220;Type 22&#8243;, NATO reporting name &#8220;Colt&#8221;.</p>
